Loving Our New Friends

Written by: Mattie Kiser

For the second day of our 2025 workshop, the Chorale rose early to enjoy a lovely breakfast prepared by the Muskingum dining staff filled with danishes, pancakes, and some much needed caffeine. We then headed to Walter Hall for a morning warm-up with the full choir. The sopranos and altos bid a goodbye to the tenors and basses, separating for sectional rehearsals to focus on bettering on some pieces.

Then, we had the honor to meet the Muskingum University Chaplain, Reverend Derek Waddlington. Delivering “The Theology of the Lion King” we were presented Simba’s journey through life as a spiritual allegory. We loved having Derek because it was obvious he is especially appreciative of our work and what we do as “choral ambassadors of hope.” We wished him farewell with “Thank You Very Much.”

After our morning mindset, it was time for lunch! This time FRENCH FRIES were on the menu, the #1 Chorale meal favorite. Hot debate on what you dip your fries in… ranch, ketchup… mayonaise.

For the first time during this week, each section split up for an individual “part rehearsal,” delving even deeper into our repertoire.

For a bit of a vocal rest, the singers participated in seminars orchestrated by the staff. This is something unique about our staff coming from various background. Our options for seminars were…

  • History of Hip-Hop
  • Handbells
  • Intro to Circuts
  • Digital Design
  • Enneagram Personality

Each staff member focuses in different side quests and interested when they are not with the Chorale, which allows us as singers to learn about something new and personal to them.

The final homecoming of the 29th edition of the Chorale performed to say goodbye to the repertoire of 2024’s theme “Hand-in Hand.” The new members joined us at the end for “This Is My Father’s World” and “Song of Farewell” to officially welcome them into the Chorale’s 30th Edition.

For only day 2, we have already had such great fun! There’s still so much of the week to be enjoyed, so stay tuned for more adventures!
