Tuesday the 16th, marks the mid-way point for our 2024 Summer Workshop! We experienced some wonderful things, like seminars, enriching rehearsals, and an interactive and fun performance for our evening concert series.
Our singers awoke bright and early for breakfast with their opus, and to prepare for our first rehearsal of the day. The singers began their warm-up, led by staff member Hannah Newman. We like to not only sing, but to stretch our bodies and get comfortable in our singing positions. Then, the Chorale split into sectionals for some more in-depth practice of our pieces.
After our lunch, we attended some enriching seminars led by the staff, including “Sounds of Soup” which is the sound analysis of the score of Disney’s Ratatouille, “Music Festival Madness”, that gives a step-by-step guide of attending a festival, and a coding class, meant to educate its participants about how coding and computers can be instrumented into music.
At the final event of the night, the singers and staff attended an intimate concert with famed folk singer Reggie Harris. He played many beautiful songs for us, and included us in some call-and-response music. He even featured one of the Chorale’s very own “The Times They Are A-Changin’” that will be performed on Saturday’s Workshop concert, first made popular by Bob Dylan in 1964. We loved having Reggie Harris with us so much, especially because he was so inclusive, and he was such a great story teller.
Finally, the singers and staff settled in for a long nights sleep, ready for more fun tomorrow!
This week has been so fun!! We have so much more to come! Stay tuned for more on Workshop 2024.
