Rainy Days and Thursdays

Written by: Brody Rodriguez

HELLO EVERYBODY, welcome back to the blog of all blogs ever from yours truly, Brody Rodriguez. Today on the agenda was such a handful of experiences.

One of the most notable events I’ve personally had during my experience in the chorale was Helen Welch and her group of fantastic musicians, but we’ll touch on that in a bit.

The music is truly coming along, I’d like to say, and I would very much hope so with our premiere concert only days away. Everything is finally locking today and sounding absolutely phenomenal. The way some of the chords have been locking in has me so excited for this concert coming up.

As always, I gotta talk about at least one meal we ate today, and holy cow was this cheesecake I had for lunch absolutely delicious. Lunch was some stir-fried rice with General Tso’s. Not only was that a chef’s kiss, but with this Oreo cheesecake they had for a dessert.

Oh my goodness gracious. It was one of the most heavenly experiences I have ever endured. The perfect Oreo crunch crust accompanied by the perfect cheesecake cake top layer. I must have it again.

Besides my cheesecake fantasies being fulfilled this week, today was also our last day of seminars. I was part of Ryan’s seminar of learning some aspects and an introduction to circuitry. On Sunday and Tuesday, we’ve previously learned much of the basics of using a breadboard and powering up an LED light. I very much enjoyed the time I’ve spent in the seminar and learning about how some circuits function.

Our full rehearsal was jam-packed with soloist testing for many of our songs. And let’s just say, that cheesecake wasn’t the only thing that ate today. Everyone’s solos cooked better than that stir-fry I had for lunch. And that’s hard to beat. We made a lot of improvements today and will continue to work hard as we get to the end of this week.

One of the best parts of today was the literal concert that was performed for us. Helen Welch’s “Carpenter’s Reimagined” was absolutely jaw-dropping. I, personally, have not listened to many of the Carpenter’s songs besides maybe one or two, but hearing this band play and sing some of these songs gives me a true feeling of what the power of music can bring to a person. This performance makes me want to add some of their songs onto my playlist. And I just might. But the truly moving sound of their music brings me to realize what effect music can have on everyone. What we’re doing is truly making a difference, and I’m so grateful that these individuals were able to open my eyes to that.

Until next time,

Stay awesome, stay musical, and if you ever see an Oreo cheesecake… treat yourself. You deserve it. PEACE!
