The second day of Chorale Workshop, featuring the 23rd Chorale’s Tour Encore.

Sunday, July 22, 2018

After breakfast with our opera, singers headed to worship at College Drive Presbyterian Church. The Chorale sang two songs for the service, and were very grateful for the amazing donuts and coffee that followed. After some rehearsal time, singers also participated in their first seminar of the week. Seminars are classes that members will have three times during the week, and they range to everything from Film Music to Music History to Interval Training.

This evening, members of the 23rd Chorale performed their Tour Encore Concert. After being apart for a month, it was amazing to hear that wonderful Chorale sound for one more performance of the “Give Us Hope” theme.  It was a bittersweet evening as we said goodbye to members who won’t be joining us at workshop this year, but were able to pass on the torch to new members as they joined the 23rd Chorale for “This Is My Father’s World.”

When Kanisha Williams, a first year alto in the Chorale, was asked what it was like to sing with the full choir for the first time, she said, “It was very relaxed. I wasn’t timid. I felt very welcomed; I felt like I belonged there. It was nice.”

When asked what it was like to sing her last full concert with the Chorale, Elizabeth Ferris said, “It was something I was really thankful for, to be creating music with people who not only taught me a love for music but for one another. Those are the things that will stick with me, not just for my time in Chorale.”

Karen Hildreth was awarded the Chorale’s Medal of Distinction.  Karen has been essential to the chorale’s success through her support, help with meals, and so much else that she does to make the Chorale successful each year.
